Mapping Between Prosodic Hierarchy and Supralaryngeal Articulatory Variations in French
نویسنده
چکیده
The gradual behaviour of articulatory supralaryangeal variations as a function as an 8-level vs a 4-level prosodic hierarchy was analysed here. Comparisons between the results related to each hierarchy suggested that 4-level hierarchy was sufficient to account for prosodic-dependent articulatory changes in French. These results allowed to discuss the architecture of hierarchical prosodic representation of speech.

Articulation and acoustics of /i/ in preboundary position in French
This study presents acoustic and electromagnetic articulometry (EMA) data for the vowel /i/ in pre-boundary position in French. The boundaries examined are the Utterance, the Intonational phrase, the Accentual phrase, the Word and the Syllable. Our results show that although durational effects of prosodic boundary are still very strong, the effects on supralaryngeal articulation and on spectral...
متن کاملArticulatory strengthening at edges of prosodic domains.
In this paper it is shown that at the edges of prosodic domains, initial consonant and final vowels have more extreme (less reduced) lingual articulations, which are called articulatory strengthening. Linguopalatal contact for consonants and vowels in different prosodic positions was compared, using reiterant-speech versions of sentences with a variety of phrasings read by three speakers of Ame...
متن کاملEnglish and French speakers' perception of voicing distinctions in non-native lateral consonant syllable onsets
English and French listeners were tested on discrimination and open-response categorization of laryngeal contrasts in three non-native syllable onsets differing in gestural complexity, in particular in the phasing between laryngeal and supralaryngeal articulations. All onsets involved a lateral, which was combined with a coronal stop in two contrasts. Results support the view that syllable onse...
متن کاملRelations between prominence and articulatory-prosodic cues in emotional speech
This study investigates the relations between the degree of prominence and articulatory-prosodic cues in emotional speech. In particular, this study considers articulatory parameters driven from the Converter/Distributor (C/D) model. The goal is to obtain a better understanding of the link among syllable magnitude in the C/D model, the empirical way to measure it in literature, and syllable-lev...
متن کاملCoarticulation and prosodic hierarchy
This paper attempts to discuss the relationship between segmental coarticulation and prosodic structure in Mandarin Chinese. The discussion is mainly based on the EPG measurements to a set of phrases and short sentences produced in moderate speed. Main parameters measured in this study include (1) inter-gesture timing: temporal intervals overlapped between different articulatory gestures of V1#...
